Michael's Butchers

Michael Thomas started in the butchery trade as a Saturday boy at the age of just 12. He remembers actually delivering on an old butchers bike in and around Malmesbury in all weathers.

Initially wanting to be an engineer, Michael's family circumstances meant he could not afford to attend university so carried on his butchery career.

Excellent. Beautiful home made and award winning burger. Also deli with cheeses, pastry and meat for sale. Everything looked delicious. A definite return.

As is typical, Michael had to be the best at everything he put his hand to so made it his aim to be the best butcher he could possibly be and has has built strong relationships with the farmers, breeders and growers supplying him with their finest produce.

You can be sure that the serrano ham on sale at Michael's actually comes from Spain.

Just 5 mins passed the Abbey on Gloucester Road you'll find Michael's, a family run Butchers, deli and bistro. The best thing is you can now dine in and eat all you see! The food is honest, home cooked and delicious made from fresh locally sourced ingredients. I’ve never been disappointed, the butchers breakfast with home made hash browns, light and fluffy fried bread is a Saturday morning institution! You can then grab a steak for dinner as you leave! What's not to like!

In 2010 Mrs Christine Hamilton mentioned a competition she had read about in Country Life Magazine and asked Michael if he would like to be nominated. The competition was to find Britain's best sausage. So Michael and Sandy sat down and came up with The Malmesbury King.

Not really expecting to get anywhere but very proud of the sausage they had made it was a surprise when they were asked to attend the final judging stage in London. The judging took place at Bar Boulud, the London restaurant owned by 3 Star Michelin chef Daniel Boulud, who was the head judge. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Malmesbury King won Britain's Best Sausage and it is now made every day in Malmesbury and is sent all over the country.

People visit Malmesbury from around the UK and indeed the world to purchase The Malmesbury King. Needless to say Michael is quite rightly very proud.

All our sausages are hand made on the premises using lean free range pork or beef, natural casings and fresh ingredients.

I have been supporting this establishment since the 70's. Visiting family from the USA and picked up sausages, lamb and a selection of cheese for dinner. Five star quality and service!

Michael and his wife Sandy have worked extremely hard to build a highly reputable quality business and when a large retailer established itself in the town, they knew they had to change the offering to their customers to stay at the top of their game. They achieved this by opening a new Bistro and Deli in their butchers shop in Malmesbury.

Michael's also offers meat boxes and a delicious ready to cook range for dinner parties and celebrations to cook at home.
